Lawsuit filed by ACLU Over U.S. Anti Hacking Law

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) just filed a lawsuit in US Federal court on Wednesday. This case challenged the constitutionality of an anti hacking law that was passed. The argue was that it prevents the academics and others from obtaining any data in order to investigate online algorithms and whether they are discriminatory or not.

The filed lawsuit claims that Computer Fraud and Abuse Act infringes the Constitution’s first amendment protections of speech, the right to petition and the press.

The lawsuit was brought in with the help of university professors and First look media.

US Will Train Cambodian Government For Cyber Crime Protection

The United States recently invited over a few Cambodian officials to learn about how to combat Cyber Crime from U.S cyber security experts.

This is a much needed move because just recently several countries and their nongovernmental organizations have expressed serious concerns over the recently rising global cyber crime. They all agreed that Cambodia needs a new Cybercrime law.

Currently, secretary of state at the ministry of Posts and Telecommunications estimates that at least 7 million Cambodians use the internet on a daily basis. This is giving rise to cyber crime as more and more people are becoming victims of cyber threats and attacks. Personal data is being stolen and fraudulent over the internet is becoming common.

Even Nascar Isn’t Safe From Cyber Criminals

Even Nascar teams aren’t safe from cyber attacks anymore. Hackers recently attacked the Circle Sport-Leavine Family Racing’s (CSLFR) and stole car, driver and course data using ransomware. This event highlights how far cyber crime has come through.

The story was first published by Nascar. Before the big race in April next year, the chief of the team Dave Winston’s computer was also hacked. Information like vital files were stolen leaving the team unable to properly prepare for the upcoming race.

The hacking was completed using the TeslaCrypt Ransomware program that has since been also shutdown after the event.

The Government Assures Its Taking Steps To Fight Cyber Crime

The government has admitted that the rate of conviction on those accused of attempting or successfuly completing cybercrime is on the rise. There is only one way to fight this kind of crime and that is through preventative methods.

The government is taking steps to imrprove the systems and make sure that new cyber threats are prevented in the future. But to achieve this, state of the art new equipment must be installed and new professionals need to be hired. There are already enough professionals available but because of private companies offering them better packages, many leave the government as soon as they have become capable of handling sophisticated attacks.

Cybercrime Increasingly Becoming A Threat To Local Communities

Cyber crime is increasingly becoming a big threat to local communities all over the United States. According to Chief Constable at Isle of Man, the police is not seeing significant rise but there is definitely enough cyber crime going on the internet to be worried about.

We are quickly entering a period where traditional crime is getting lesser and cyber crime is taking over. Recently it was reported that cybercrime has already outpaced traditional crime in the UK and there is no doubt that other countries will soon experience this.

Travels Are At Huge Risk When Connected To Public Wi-Fi – Finds Kespersky Lab

If you are kind of a person who quickly logs on to public networks whenever you land on new soil, you should stop, think and reconsider. There are tons of public Wi-Fis which are extremely insecure to join and they could cause you to lose personal data.

Kaspersky Lab recently did a study which used 11,850 people for the survey who revealed they were victims of cyber crime when they were abroad. This is due to unsecure wi-fis they join when they land in a new country.

People are used to connecting immediately because that is the only way they can find out about maps, restaurants and other happenings in the location.

The ABC of Cyber Crime Discovered By Euro Agency

The European Union Intellectual Property Office used up a few months to investigate into the tactics of IP offenders and compiled a report.

According to them, IP offenders are often using a technique known as domain squatting and through affiliate programs, BitTorrent and Bitcoin as means to carry out their offending operations.

They gain monetary benefits by selling counterfeit products on the internet and then also make money by setting up ad spots on their websites. Although their websites are illegal, they are still very popular amongst people looking to acquire cheap or free stuff.

Intel Security Says War Against Cybercrime Is Not Being Lost

According to Intel Security EMEA chief technology officer Raj Samani, we are not losing the war against cyber criminals.

He revealed this while speaking to Intel Security Summit in Mallorca. He cited the UK National Crime Agency (NCA) which recently suggested that the security firms and government agencies are losing the war against cyber criminals. It was also recently revealed that cybercrime is quickly outpacing traditional crime in the UK.

The NCA believe the efforts by government and security firms are not enough to fully address the issues faced by organizations against cyber crimes.

A Report Has Found Link Between Online Games To Cyber Criminality

In a report released by the National Crime Agency and CREST, a link between online video games and its relation with cyber criminality has been revealed.

The report Identiy, Intervene, Inspire deals with people who started out as playing online video games and then turned to serious cyber crimes later. It identifies the path they took. Cybercriminals Are Reportedly Upgrading The Sundown Exploit Kit

Cybercrooks who are behind the notorious Sundown Exploit kit are reportedly working on an upgrade to the hacking tool in order to create a gap in the market. They are acting rapidly to upgrade the exploit kit because earlier both Nuclear and Angler exploit kits came to a halt.

Sundown Exploit is quickly growing enough to take over other exploits in the market. Security researchers believe that work has been accelerated on the evolution of this kit and has been since 2016.

The cyber criminals are using the code they stole from the rival RIG exploit kit which help them create their own.

Android Devices Are Being Infected By Cyber Criminals Using Pokemon Go

Pokemon Go became insanely popular in just a week. The game has only been released in a few regions which has many left to download the game using unofficial means.

The APK files of the game are openly available on the internet to directly download on your devices. A lot of these files are uploaded by Cyber Criminals to infect your phone with malware. This can then allow them to steal personal information such as credit cards, login details and much more. To avoid being a victim of an infected phone, don’t download the game from unofficial sources.

Auto-Mobile Thieves Are Using Cyber Crime Like Techniques For Their Crimes

CalAmp LoJack Corp has just revealed that auto thieves are now using cyber crime techniques to steal cars. They are using technology to hack into electronic auto ignitions with laptops. They have high end technology that is helping them breach the security of an automobile.

The technique uses a portable scanner that exploits the electronic key fobs. This is an identity theft technology where personally identifiable information data that is stored within the vehicle and its computer is stolen. They are also using a car cloning system that allows them to come up with a fake Vehicle Identification Number (VIA) which then allows them to produce documents.

Russian Gang Has Been Jailed After £4.5 million Laundering Crime

Using sophisticated malware technology, a Russian gang consisting of 5 members used a complex network of cash mules to successfully launder cash that was obtained from accounts.

Police has found enough evidence of the missing £4.5 million. Some of the cash that was laundered was used to immediately purchase jewellery which was smuggled to Russia. The police were however able to recover at least £190,000. But they have agreed that the actual cost to the victims is much higher than this.

The last two members of the gang were jailed. They will serve seven years and six month on the charges of conspiracy.

NCA Requests Better Reporting Of All Cybercrimes By Businesses

The National Crime Agency (NCA) has started urging busineses to make better use of the cybercrime reporting paths given to them in order to share the intelligence gathered with concerned authorities like Law Enforcement. This will greatly help in clamping down the rising problems of the corporate world when it comes to cyber security.

Cybercrime is an issue that is being overlooked and thus it is rising on a daily basis. The point of National Crime Agency is to help better communication and spread awareness amongst corporate entities in order to better deal with these threats. With under reporting from business, this is almost impossible to achieve.
