Cybersecurity worker shortfall to fall to critical levels by 2022 – report reveals
In the next five years, the number of jobs in the cyber security industry will face a massive shortfall of 1.8 million workers. This is an increase of 20% from 2015 estimates. This new figure was revealed through an ISC 2 survey.
But what is really driving this shortfall? If you look closely, it is apparent that companies are spending more and more on acquiring new technology rather than hiring professionals to tackle cyber security threats.
The report was constructed with help of employment data acquired through job boards, vendors, media, analysists, and governments. But whatever the case, its a real wake up call for companies to seriously consider putting in some investment in hiring more professional help otherwise there will be no one available to fight back attacks like the recent Wannacry ransomware that took down as many as 200,000 computers worldwide.
